Community Engaged Learning

Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is an educational approach that integrates service in the community with intentional learning activities. Within effective CEL efforts, members of both educational institutions and community organizations work together toward outcomes that are mutually beneficial.

Local CEL Opportunities

Select courses in Intercultural Communication, Italian, and Spanish offer CEL components in relation to local communities. Here are some examples:
  • Intercultural Communications 2500 F/G: Bridging Classroom and Community – Languages and Cultures in Action [cross-listed with Comparative Literature and Culture, German, Italian, and Spanish]
  • Italian 2100A/B: Stories of Italian Canadians
  • Spanish 1030: Spanish for Beginners (optional component)
  • Spanish 2200: Intermediate Spanish (optional component)
  • Spanish 3300: Advanced Spanish Language (optional component)

International CEL Opportunities

Select courses in Italian and Spanish offer CEL components internationally. Here are some examples:
  • Italian 2202X: Intermediate Italian in Italy
  • Spanish 1030: Spanish for Beginners (optional component in Cuba)
  • Spanish 2200: Intermediate Spanish (optional component in Cuba)
